Cubs Fall Short in Series Finale Against Cardinals



In a hard-fought battle, the Chicago Cubs faced off against the St. Louis Cardinals in the final game of their away series on May 26, 2024. Despite a strong effort, the Cubs were unable to secure a victory, losing 3-4 in 9 innings and bringing the series to a close with a 0-2 record.


Game Highlights

The Cubs showed resilience throughout the game, with standout moments from Nico Hoerner and Ian Happ. In the top of the 7th inning, Hoerner scored from 1st base off Happ's powerful home run to right-center field, putting the Cubs on the scoreboard. Happ continued his impressive performance in the top of the 9th inning, hitting another home run, this time to center field, narrowing the Cardinals' lead.


On the Cardinals' side, Paul Goldschmidt delivered a stellar performance, contributing significantly to their victory. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Alec Burleson scored from 1st base off Goldschmidt's home run to left field. Goldschmidt struck again in the bottom of the 5th inning, with Brendan Donovan scoring from 1st base off his 2nd home run of the game, also hit to left field.


Pitching Duel

The Cubs' pitching lineup included Javier Assad, who pitched from the 1st to the 5th innings, followed by Drew Smyly (6th and 7th innings) and Porter Hodge (8th inning). The Cardinals countered with Sonny Gray (1st to 5th innings), John King (6th inning), Andrew Kittredge (7th inning), JoJo Romero (8th inning), and Ryan Helsley (9th inning), who closed out the game.


Upcoming Series Against the Brewers

Despite the loss, the Cubs remain determined as they prepare for their next challenge, a 4-game away series against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cubs will look to regroup and come back stronger as they aim to turn their fortunes around and secure important wins in the upcoming series.
